How To Use the Work Apps Tag in Total Launcher (Without a Corporate Account)
The Work apps tag in Total Launcher requires an active Android Work Profile on the device. For personal devices not enrolled in an enterprise mobile device management (MDM) system, third-party sandboxing tools such as Island utilize Android's native managed profile APIs to establish an isolated environment.
This configuration lets applications be cloned into a secondary space—indicated by the system briefcase badge—enabling dual accounts, isolated testing, and automated organization directly in Total Launcher's App Drawer.
Step-by-Step Configuration Guide
Step 1: Install and Initialize the Sandboxing Application
- Download and install Island from the Google Play Store.
- Open Island and follow the initial on-screen setup prompts to create the Android Work Profile partition (requires accepting the system-managed-profile permission).
Step 2: Clone an Application into the Work Container
Island organizes device applications across two primary sections:
- Mainland: Standard personal applications installed on the device.
- Island: The isolated work profile container where cloned apps receive the system briefcase indicator.
To clone an application:
- Select the Mainland tab to display personal applications.
- Locate and select the target application (for example, Calculator).
- Tap the + (Clone / Add) button in the bottom action bar.
- When prompted by the system installer, confirm with Install or Clone.
- Switch to the Island tab to verify that the application appears with the managed profile indicator.
Step 3: Access the "Work Apps" Tag in Total Launcher
- Return to the home screen and open the Total Launcher App Drawer.
- Open the drawer tag selector by tapping the active tag header or drawer options menu.
- Select the Work apps tag.
- The cloned application (displaying the blue briefcase badge) will now populate this dedicated filter automatically.
Step 4: Removal and Cleanup Procedures
To remove isolated applications or discard the test environment:
- Remove a Single App: Open Island, navigate to the Island tab, select the target application, tap the menu (three dots), and select Uninstall.
- Remove the Entire Profile: Navigate to Android Settings > Passwords & accounts (or Accounts & backup), select Work profile, and choose Remove work profile (alternatively, select Destroy Island within the Island app settings).
